Gracenote predicts USA, Korea and China will take Olympic archery titles at Tokyo 2020
The model takes into account recent results and past Olympic record.
Korea is predicted to take three golds at Tokyo 2020, with USA and China adding one each. There will be five medals available at the Games for the first time with the debut of the mixed team event.
In 2019, Ellison won the world championships for the first time in his career and Kang only lost one major international match – the final of the worlds. Both archers won gold medals at the Hyundai Archery World Cup Final last season.
Korea is expected to remain unbeaten in the recurve women’s team competition at the Olympics and win the first mixed team title. The Chinese men, who were a somewhat surprise victor at the 2019 Hyundai World Archery Championships, were chosen for the last team medal.
Athletes from Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Russia, India, Italy and the Netherlands also feature on the Olympic archery podium under Gracenote’s model.
The tournament at the Games rarely goes to form, however.
